Depending on the settings of a game being played, or a player's diplomacy settings, players can be allied, neutral, or hostile toward each other. The maximum amount of players that can exist in any game of the series is 8, with exception of Age of Mythology, where the maximum is 12. ![]() In Age of Empires, Age of Empires II, Age of Empires III, and Age of Mythology, the player colors for Gaia are sky blue, white, brown, and yellow respectively. In Age of Mythology and Age of Empires III, only units with AutoConvert in their respective prototype files can be converted. Units and buildings under this neutral team can also be claimed by whichever player finds them first. At least one enemy player must exist in a map for a game to be set in motion.Įvery Age of Empires game has a non-playable, neutral player named either "Gaia" or "Mother Nature" depending on the game, that encompasses herdable and huntable animals. Players can either be customized before starting a game, or are predetermined when playing a scenario in a campaign. Players are not only a cornerstone element in the Age of Empires games, but nearly every RTS game in general.
